FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common questions to assist you. If you require more information please contact us.

How long are the consultations?
The first appointment with Dr John is approximately 1 hour, however follow-ups reduce to 20-30 minutes thereafter.
What are the costs involved?
Please see the detailed list of costs under Fee Structure Form.
Can I have someone in with me during the consultation?
Yes definitely, in fact Dr John encourages you to have one or two (but not more) relatives or friends attend with you as there is a lot covered, especially in your first consultation and it helps having more than one person remembering it all.
What kind of doctor is Dr John?
He is a Geriatrician which means he looks after older people but also younger patients with related problems such as memory impairment.
What will happen in the Consultation?
Dr John will talk to you and your family about your health problems. He will examine you physically and psychologically and may order tests which will be reviewed at subsequent visits. He will write to your referring doctor and will provide you with a copy of the letter if you wish.
What should I bring to the Consultation?
We advise you bring as much information as possible on your medical history including any CT scans, ultrasound or xrays, pathology reports and of course very importantly the referral from your doctor. You will also need to bring your Medicare card (for your Medicare refund to be organised) and Private Health fund details (in case you need to go into hospital at any stage). A full list of these requirements is listed in our Fee Structure Form.
Can I get a Medicare refund?
You will be entitled to a Medicare refund providing you have a referral from your GP or specialist to Dr John. If you have registered your bank account details with Medicare we are able to send your Medicare request direclty to Medicare so they can deposit the refund into your account which takes 1-2 business days. (For a full list of charges and refunds please see Fee Structure Form.
Does Dr John see DVA Gold patients?
Yes. Dr John is very happy to see DVA patients also, and please bring your DVA card.
